Thomas Sutherland. Headwaiter, 20s Thomas has been employed as a waiter at the manor for three years. Since four successive headwaiters were fired by the concierge Adrienne Van Scoy in an 18-month period, he now finds himself with the top job, despite his youth. His table service is impeccable, his uniform always spotless, his knowledge of food service improving by leaps and bounds every week. His work ethic is the best on the staff and he volunteers for extra jobs around the manor, most of which are unrelated to his official duties. Thomas Sutherland has a secret dream: he wants to be a head butler one day, and he's known that from the moment he arrived at the manor and observed Farnsworth and Van Scoy in action. He never misses a session of Farnsworth's lectures on manners and is the most attentive participant in the class. He closely observes the kitchen staff and every aspect of food preparation; consults with Chef Leon whenever possible. He's saving his money to attend the famous international school for butler administrators and housekeepers in London. If his dream ever did come true, Farnsworth and Van Scoy would most certainly not be his role models. Sutherland wants to run a manor someday, somewhere, himself, but do so with wisdom and kindness and concern. In short, he hopes to orchestrate a large and happy extended family in elegant surroundings. If this were the Middle Ages, he would be a knight in shining armor. And since he's so busy working, he scarecly notices that receptionist Penelope Stratton can't keep her eyes off him. Thomas enjoys immensely the company of Reggie McCabe, doorman, and Bruce Sherlock, pub landlord. He drives the Yobwell Yobblers fan bus, a local amateur soccer team that Reggie manages and Bruce plays on. Although straight-laced, Thomas is not above pulling the occasional prank. Once, on a dare, he drove the rowdy, hard-drinking Yobbler fans to the wrong match--an international friendly featuring top gay clubs from Thailand and Brazil --where, after staggering onto the pitch, they were given a hugely warm welcome from both sides. |
