Arthur Reynold Hanover, Lord of the Manor

Lord Hanover is in his eighties, yet in his clear-eyed gaze there is warmth, bemusement, and a hint of the mischievous boy he once was. Kris's uncle is among the titled nobility, but the rest of his life is shrouded in mystery. To begin with, exactly how is he related to Kris? Is he Kris's mother's brother? His father's? -- His father?

Lord Hanover has only said that once Kris learned the whole story, it would all make sense and he wishes Kris to immediately accept his offer. All arrangements have been completed. Kris need only make the journey to discover for himself at Hanover Manor all that has remained hidden about Kris's past, present and future.

In memoirs and messages, Kris's uncle makes it clear that he had unobtrusively followed every detail of Kris's life. He's come to know him and is pleased that he has turned out the way he has. In his estimation Kris deserve all that he is about to inherit. In his eyes, Kris will always be his "beloved child."

Aside from that there is this: Those who knew Lord Hanover continue to speak highly of him -- of his kindness, his wisdom, his humor, his generosity. Professionally, he was an inventor-scientist, working long stretches in complete solitude in parts of the manor nobody else had access to.

Rumor has it that he holds several dozen patents, and that his inventions have earned more money than he originally inherited from his father. Interspersed between these periods of labor were equally long periods of world travel to exotic locales -- times when he was incommunicado and about which he rarely spoke upon his return.
