Part Two-The Promise |
Kris has gained control of the Hanover Manor estate. But his problems and challenges are just beginning.
By solving even more puzzles and interpreting more vlues, he and Christopher discover that Kris is no blood relation after all,
but rather a subject who was selected nearly at random in a grand scientific experiment. They learn that his late "uncle" was suffering from a terminal illness and wished to stun the world by proving that he could become DNA-related to anybody in it. To achieve this notoriety, he executed an intricate plan to alter his own genetic makeup and bequeath his entire estate to a total stranger -- in this case, Kris. Lucky Kris! These discoveries, however, enrage the butler, who now brands Kris an imposter and is once again determined to deligitemize Kris's claims. |
During this period Kris's infatuation with the concierge grows, as she seems as though she's starting to warm up to him.
Also, speculation is swirling in the local and national press about Kris's identity. There are even rumors that Lord Hanover might be granted a posthumous Nobel prize in Physiology/Medicine due to his discoveries in DNA-manipulation. And that his friend, Lord Dennis Rollinsby may be nominated for the prize in Physics because of the advances he has made in teleportation. Kris learns he may be invited to Stockholm to acknowledge the award on his late uncle's behalf. That evening, thanks to an electrifying simulation game followed by a surprise dance party, tension evaporates and all conflicts among the manor staff are resolved. Later that night, the concierge comes to Kris's room wearing only a negligee, which she removes and performs a series of erotic poses and contortions. But before Kris can reach out for her, she grabs her garments and runs out of the room. When Kris knocks on her door, she claims she has no knowledge of these events. Former foes turn into trusted associates, although Kris is disappointed to learn that the butler and concierge have formerlly announced their marital engagement; that Bruce and Savanah are now quite obviously a couple; that Thomas and Penelope are totally smitten with each over. Hat trick! The teenage Strorytellers chide Kris for never having made a move, and now it's too late. Nonetheless, Kris is completely accepted as the new head of the great house and gains new status as a British hereditary peer. At long last the weather clears and so the triumph is celebrated in a giant outdoor dinner with festivities that include a magic show and a "Circus in the Sky" holographic spectacular. At its conclusion. Lord Hanover appears in the sky to bid everyone a fond farewell. It seems at long last the household is intact and united. Soon the entire world is beating a path to Kris's doorstep, including representatives of the Nobel foundation. |
